Training and Professional Development

Portland Community College (PCC), Customized Work Place Training (now CLIMB)
Worked with PCC clients to assess training needs, design curricula and deliver customized training programs. Topics included communications, conflict resolution, cultural diversity and team building. Clients were from engineering firms, high-tech industries and manufacturing companies.

"A clear communicator and organized in her approach, Kathy’s energy, humor and sense of integrity make her a delight to work with. She is a gifted writer and excellent trainer whose down-to-earth style allows her to connect well with training participants."
Mary Chalkiopoulos, Former Co-Director

Hewlett Packard - Vancouver, Washington
Delivered Workplace Interaction Training, a 34-hour training program, to assembly line workers and their supervisors. Topics during this year long project included personal awareness, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, teaming, dealing with change and project planning.

"Kathy was flexible and spent the needed time to use the skills we were learning to resolve real workplace issues. She did a great job. She seemed to have a personal interest in helping the team improve our working relationships. I feel that the team will be able to use what we’ve learned and improve our relationships with each other."
Scott Rittenburgh, Supervisor

Precision Interconnect (now Tyco Electronics) – Wilsonville, Oregon
Assessed the training needs of the engineering department and delivered a customized training program: "Tools for Solving Complex Problems in a Creative Way." Also assessed the needs of an engineering team, and designed and provided a team-building training to improve their team functioning.

"Kathy first listens well in order to truly understand what the need is. She then provides effective training enhanced by her engaging, warm style."
May Lou Laybourn, Corporate Training Manager

Creative Thinking for Problem Solving – This training evolved from a segment of a training I designed for Precision Interconnect. I continue to present this training. A few comments from participants:

"Creative Thinking for Problem Solving was a real treat for us. As public property managers we perform our duties according to laws and policies. In this seminar we learned innovative techniques that can make us more effective. Kathy made the exercises fun and surprised us with how creative we really are"
Teresa Rozic, President,
Oregon Public Property Managers Association

"Kathy’s creative problem solving training demonstrated that it is not necessary to use a linear process to solve problems. Taking Kathy’s class was like being handed a master key that could unlock the door to any question or problem that presents itself. I am now the key master. I will be watching the schedule so I can take other classes taught by Kathy."
Allan Messer, Bureau of Personnel, City of Portland
