Strategic Planning, Research and Evaluation
The Trust for Public Land (TPL) - Portland, Oregon
Developed a three-year strategic plan to guide the Oregon organization in its efforts to expand conservation
programs, acquire land outside of the Portland metro area, increase the organization's visibility throughout the
state and boost fundraising income.
"Beyond the act of writing a plan, to which Kathy contributed greatly, the more challenging aspect of the
planning project was uniting staff, volunteers and partners around a focused agenda. I could not have asked for better
or more professional help with our strategic plan. Kathy met the challenge of uniting staff, partners and volunteers
around a focused agenda. By the end, Kathy had integrated us. She’s loads of fun to work with too!"
Geoff Roach, Oregon Field Director
Grant County Commission on Children and Families – Canyon City, Oregon
Coordinated the Commission’s 18-month community planning process working with county departments and state agencies to prepare
its 2002 comprehensive plan for services to children and families in Grant County. This included identifying areas of need based
on data analysis and outcomes established through the State of Oregon’s Benchmarks Program. Developed strategies to address needs
and an evaluation plan to assess results.
"Kathy facilitated a planning process that required work with multiple community partners, state agencies,
department heads, and community members. The plan required consensus on strategic plans, logic models and measurements for issues facing
Grant County’s children and families. Kathy embraced the project with a great deal of determination, professionalism and humor, winning
over even the most resistant department heads and community members. As a result of her efforts, our plan was accepted by the state
Commission on the first submission. Kathy’s work facilitated stronger links within the county around local issues, which continue today."
Dana Brooks, Director
Davis, Hibbitts & Midghall, Inc. – Portland, Oregon
The Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation wanted to learn Tribal member views about economic development on
reservation land. As an associate of DHM, I interviewed Tribal Council members and community leaders and assisted during focus
groups. Wrote a report that analyzed results from the interviews and focus groups.
"Three words describe Kathy’s work for us: dedication, energy, and accomplishment. The executive interviewing,
analysis and writing she has completed has been exemplary. There’s been everything: from attention to detail to the timely delivery of
finished product. Kathy has also been an excellent project manager. Whether it was scheduling and interviewing community leaders,
assisting in focus groups or analyzing and writing reports from the data collected, the tasks got done on time and within budget. She
also inspires co-workers to be better with her enthusiasm, vision, and organizational talents."
Adam Davis, Partner
Cascades East Area Health Education Center at St. Charles Medical Center – Bend, Oregon
Evaluated a new educational program to train Spanish-speaking individuals throughout Oregon to be interpreters in medical facilities.
Developed a logic model, created a questionnaire and administered a telephone survey to 65 students to learn their assessment of the
training program. Survey findings led to program improvements.
"Kathy is great to work with – she is well organized, detail-oriented and was very helpful in creating a
project evaluation plan for a multi-year, complex statewide AHEC project. She worked with us to develop survey instrument tools,
conduct the survey and analyze survey data. She was invaluable to our project evaluation and I would recommend her to others who
are in need of such services"
Jennifer Valentine, MSPH, Executive Director
